Monsef Bakrar put New York (6-10-12t) up 1-0 on the counter, his shot squeaking between the legs of Yohei Takaoka, before the Caps (10-8-8) took things the other direction two minutes later — with Ryan Gauld earning a penalty kick after being hauled down by James Sands.
He cooly converted his fifth PK on five attempts, to push his goal total to 10 on the season.

The Whitecaps have now gone undefeated in their first three games of their seven-game away stretch, and have a two-week international break to rest up for the second half of it.
